On January 19, 2021, the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, declared that China is committing "ongoing" genocide against Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang province.

It is really strange to hear a statement about genocide from a US official, who, during his more than two and half years tenure as the US secretary of state has never made a statement condemning the Armenian Genocide. Mr. Pompeo was silent even as the US House of Representatives adopted a landmark resolution recognizing the 1915 genocide of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey on October 30, 2019, and the US Senate adopted a similar resolution by unanimous consent on December 12, 2019

The absence of actions of Mr. Pompeo on condemning the Armenian Genocide, which is being recognized by the vast majority of international scholars and more than 30 states, can be explained by only one reason - Mr. Pompeo is using the word Genocide for purely geopolitical reasons while seeking to wrap his actions with nice words about the human rights.
